چکیده

Freeze dried powdered leaves of Cymbopogum citratus (DC) Stapf, Cinnamomum camphor a (L.) Nee & Eberm Ipomoea mauritiana Jacq. famarandus indicus L., Lantana camara L., Myroxylon balsumum (L.) Harm, Citrus aurantium L. and vitex altisima L. were tested against Callosobruchus maculatus under nochoice and choice situations. Under no-choice situation, V. altisima at the rate of 5.0% w/w was highly effective as an ovipositional deterrent while T. indicus was effective as a larvicide. T. indicus tested under choice situation at the rate of 1.0 % w/w, was effective as an ovipositional deterrent as well as a repellant. V. altisima tested at the same rate, was effective only as an ovipositional deterrent.

Insecticidal activity of 2-tridecanone against the cowpea weevil Callosobruchus maculatus (Coleoptera: Bruchidae).

The effect of 2-tridecanone vapor on the cowpea weevil (Callosobruchus maculatus) development was determined. Seeds of cowpea were infested with adults and exposed to different doses of 2-tridecanone isolated from Pilocarpus microphyllus Stapf ex Holm, a plant species native from northeastern Brazil. The pure monoterpene was evaluated both undiluted as well as in the dilutions 1:10, 1:100 and 1...

Effect of solvent residues of Vitex negundo Linn. and Cassia fistula Linn. on pulse beetle, Callosobruchus maculatus Fab. and its larval parasitoid, Dinarmus vagabundus (Timberlake).

Effect of solvent residues of Vitex negundo L. and Cassia fistula L. leaves (0.5 and 1%) was studied on egg laying and adult emergence of Callosobruchus maculatus Fab. and on percentage of larval parasitism by Dinarmus vagabundus (Timberlake). Cowpea seeds treated with methanol and aqueous extract of Vitex, at these concentrations (0.5 and 1%), significantly reduced the number of eggs and emerg...

Effect of solar drying on the biological parameters of the cowpea weevil, Callosobruchus maculatus Fab. (Coleoptera-Bruchinae), in Sahelian area

Objective: Callosobruchus maculatus Fab. (Coleoptera: Bruchinae) is a major pest of cowpea seeds (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp) in the Sahelian zone. The grain infestation by this insect pest starts in the field at the beginning of fructification of the plant and continues in storage where the damage can be significant if no protective measures are taken. In order to prevent the damage caused by...

Deterrent activity of plant lectins on cowpea weevil Callosobruchus maculatus (F.) oviposition.

A set of 14 plant lectins was screened in a binary choice bioassay for inhibitory activity on cowpea weevil Callosobruchus maculatus (F.) oviposition. Coating of chickpea seeds (Cicer arietinum L.) with a 0.05% (w/v) solution of plant lectins caused a significant reduction in egg laying. Control experiments with heat inactivated lectin and BSA indicated that the observed deterrent effects are s...

Insecticidal Effect of Clary Sage (Salvia sclarea) Essential oil Against Callosobruchus maculatus (Col: Bruchidae) and Tribolium confusum (Col: Tenebrionidae)

Background: Nowadays stored–product insect pests are controlled by pesticides and chemical fumigant compounds. The continueous use of chemical pesticides is harmful for non–target creatures specially humans and other mammals. Beside they polluted the environment. Objective: Accoring to the studies, the essential oil of Labiatae plants have insecticidal activity against some pests. In this st...
